The History of the Farm
John and Susan Archer and their three children started milking Jersey cows here at New Moor Farm in 2002 after losing the original herd of Holstein Friesians to Foot and Mouth.
John and herdsman Alan Laverick manage the cows, in a welfare conscious system. The herd graze a lush clover rich pasture on the south facing slopes of the Tees Valley and feed on conserved forage made on the farm during the winter, made from red clover, rye grass, winter wheat and maize. The welfare of the cows is monitored by Freedom Food and by the National Dairy Farm Assured Scheme. This all leads to a welfare friendly wholesome, nutritious product.
Environmental Objectives
The farm is run within the guidelines of the environmental ELS, which aims to sustain beauty and diversity of landscape, improve and extend wildlife and create new habitats.
